WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team is set to travel to the picturesque Caribbean over the Thanksgiving holiday to compete in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship in Nassau, The Bahamas.

The Seahawks will be joined by Long Beach State, Missouri State, Vermont, San Jose State, Oakland, Ball State and North Texas in the eight-team event pegged for Nov. 25-27, 2022.

baha_mar_bracket"We're very excited about playing in the Baha Mar tournament," said Takayo Siddle, UNCW's third-year head coach and the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year. "It's one of the best Thanksgiving holiday tournaments in the country and features great competition. It will be an excellent opportunity for our young team to play quality opponents while bonding together and building some important chemistry as the season gets under way."

UNCW is scheduled to face Missouri State out of the Missouri Valley Conference in a first-round pairing on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. Four games are on tap for each day and all 12 of the contests will be streamed on FloHoops.

The tournament is part of the "Baha Mar Hoops" umbrella promoted by bdG Sports that features the Bahamas Championship, the Nassau Championship and the Pink Flamingo Championship.

In last year's title game of the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship, the Mid-American Conference's Toledo rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to rally past Coastal Carolina, 79-70, on Nov. 24, 2021.

The Seahawks are seeking their third tournament crown in as many years after winning the Mako Medical Asheville Classic in 2021 and the Roman College Basketball Invitational in 2022.

The Seahawks finished 27-9 last season and captured the championship of the Roman CBI in Daytona Beach, Fla., after earning a share of their ninth regular season championship in the CAA.

Missouri State went 23-11 overall and 13-5 in the MVC in 2021-22. The Bears lost to Drake in the Valley semifinals, but Coach Dana Ford's club earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament, losing to Oklahoma, 89-72, at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.
