Baseball Drops Finale To Charleston, 7-2

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Brooks Baldwin and Ethan Baucom combined for five of UNCW's seven hits on the afternoon as the Seahawks dropped a 7-2 decision to the College of Charleston on Sunday, allowing the Cougars to win the series and clinch the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title.

The Cougars ran their record to 31-15 with the series win and 18-3 in the league. The Seahawks, who have dropped their last two home conference series, dropped to 25-21 and 10-8.

CofC starter Emmett Bice (3-0) held the Seahawks to a run on five hits over five innings before Cole Mathis closed out the contest with four innings of one-hit baseball for his second save.

Tyler Sorrentino headed up the CofC offense with two hits and was joined by Luke Wood, who also had two hits, including his fifth home run of the season.

Zane Taylor (3-1) took the loss for the Seahawks, allowing three of his four runs in the first two innings before settling down.

Baldwin went 3-for-3 with his eighth home run of the season and a pair of singles. Baucom, meanwhile, doubled and singled.

How it happened: Landon Choboy plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first and Wood connected on a round tripper to center with a runner on in the second for a 3-0 lead.
