Diamond Hawks Can't Cool Off Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Dale Thomas doubled three times and drove in three runs as Coastal Carolina knocked off UNCW, 16-1, to earn a split of the home-and-home series between the two programs on Tuesday at Springs-Brooks Stadium.

The Chanticleers, who piled up 15 hits, including six for extra bases, improved to 26-15-1 while the Seahawks fell to 24-19.

Tyler Johnson knocked in a team-high four runs on the strength of a double and his 10th home run of the season. Graham Brown added three hits and plated three runs.

Riley Eikhoff remained perfect on the season at 3-0 with the win. He allowed four hits and a run over three innings in a predetermined start.

Taber Mongero doubled and homered for the Seahawks. It was his fifth round tripper of the season.

UNCW starter Carter Holjes (2-1) took his first loss of the season, lasting 1.2 innings.

How it happened: Coastal Carolina plated two in the second inning and three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Johnson's opposite field homer highlighted the third inning scoring.

Home Runs: UNCW – Taber Mongero (5, one out and no one on in the second, 339 feet to right field, 97 exit velo); CCU – Tyler Johnson (10, one man on and none out in the third inning, 380 feet to left, 104 exit velo)

Up next: The Seahawks host Colonial Athletic Association leader College of Charleston for three game beginning on May 6 at 6 p.m. That evening UNCW will also host the Wilmington Miracle League and will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned during the game.
