Bridges Homers Twice As UNCW Wins In Extras

HARRISONBURG, Va. – UNCW struck for three-runs in the top of the 10th, including two on a home run off the bat of Noah Bridges, as the Seahawks opened their series at James Madison with a 7-4 win over the Dukes on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Seahawks, who have won their last five, improved to 30-21 on the season and 14-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dukes, meanwhile, saw their losing streak extended to five games while seeing their record drop to 26-25 and 11-10 in the league.

Bridges led the Seahawks at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, he scored twice and knocked in three runs. Ethan Baucom tripled in a run in a three-run fifth inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Hunter Hodges (3-1) earned the win with two innings of hitless relief.

Travis Reifsnider collected two hits for the Dukes, including his 13th round tripper of the season to tie him for the conference lead. Ryan Dooley also homered for JMU, which built a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

JMU reliever Eli Ottinger (2-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs in the 10th.

How it happened: Dillon Lifrieri led off the UNCW 10th inning with a single and pinch hitter Chris Thorburn advanced him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. A ground ball to third off the bat of Ron Evans was thrown away, allowing Lifrieri to score the go-ahead run. Bridges followed Evans with a homer to dead center for a 7-4 UNCW lead.

Home Runs: JMU – Ryan Dooley (4, led off the bottom of the first, to right field), Travis Reifsnider (13, one man on and one out, to left field); UNCW – Noah Bridges 2(2, leading off the sixth inning to center field; one out and one man on in the top of the 10th to center field).

Notes: The Seahawks matched their season-long five-game winning streak … UNCW improved to 8-10 on the road … Brooks Baldwin pushed his hitting streak to nine games with a fourth inning double and he's reached base safely in 22 consecutive games … The UNCW bullpen of Cole Benton, Jason Hudak and Hodges allowed just one hit over six shutout innings … Baldwin finished with eight assists as UNCW pitching combined for 15 ground ball outs, including three double plays.

Up next: The Seahawks and Dukes play the second game of their series at 6 p.m. on Friday.
