Suggs Gives UNCW Sweep With Late-Inning Bomb

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Matt Suggs' three-run homer in the top of the eighth broke a four-all deadlock as UNCW finished off a Colonial Athletic Association sweep of host Northeastern on Sunday with a 7-4 win at Friedman Diamond.

The Seahawks moved to 29-21 with their fourth straight win and are now 13-8 in the conference. The Huskies, meanwhile, fell to 26-25-1 and 9-12 in the league.

Suggs finished the day with three hits and four runs batted in while scoring twice. Taber Mongero and Dillon Lifrieri added two hits each as the Seahawks rallied from an early 4-3 deficit in the fourth.

Ethan Chenault (3-5) picked up his second win of the week, retiring nine of the 11 batters he faced. He finished with four strikeouts over his three innings out of the bullpen.

Danny Crossen and Tedy Beaudet each had two hits for the Huskies.

Thomas Balboni (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing the Suggs homer.

How it happened: Mongero opened the rally in the eighth with a one-out single and Ethan Baucom was plunked one batter later to put runners on first and second. Suggs and Balboni battled on a 1-2 count with Suggs fouling off four consecutive offerings before launching his league-leading 13th homer of the season for a 7-4 UNCW lead.
