Seahawks Blow Past Cougars In Men's Tennis

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Freshman Danil Ozernoy clinched a match for the first time in his young career as the UNCW men's tennis team blew past Colonial Athletic Association rival Charleston, 6-1, early Saturday at the College of Charleston Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks, 11-8 overall and 1-0 in the CAA, won their second straight and concluded a three-game road swing with the conference win. Coach Mait DuBois' club is now 2-3 on the road this season.
 
The Cougars had a two-match winning streak stopped and stand 8-8 this spring, including 5-3 in Charleston.
 
The Seahawks took the doubles point for the 11th time in 19 matches when the top tandem of Bekhzod Rasamatov and Dillon Gooch swept past CofC's Zac Larke and Robby Krick, 6-3.
 
Freshman Harold Huens raised the score to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1, decision over CofC's Johnny Wang at No. 5 singles and sophomore Gabe Hurtado gave the Seahawks a 3-0 cushion after dispatching Noah Borges, 7-6 (4), 6-2, at the No. 4 position.
 
After the Cougars picked up a point at No. 3 singles, Ozernoy, from Almaty, Kazakhstan, trimmed CofC's Andre Limon, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 singles. Ozernoy improved to 3-0 in singles in his first season with the club.
 
The Seahawks return to the Port City to close out the regular season on Friday, Apr. 15, with a 1:30 p.m. home match against the Bulldogs.
