FARMVILLE, Virginia – UNCW improved to 4-0 in one-point matches by slipping past Longwood, 4-3, in women's tennis action on Thursday at the Lancer Courts.

The Seahawks swept the critical doubles point and then added three singles victories for their fourth straight one-point win without a loss this season. UNCW has beaten Presbyterian, N.C. Central, Penn State and Longwood by 4-3 scores this spring.

The Seahawks increased their record to 11-4 and 3-2 away from the Port City with the narrow decision. It concluded a three-match road swing for Hans Olsen and the Seahawks.

Longwood, out of the Big South Conference, dropped its fourth match in a row and stands 7-12. The Lancers are 2-3 at home and fell in their only match against a Colonial Athletic Association opponent this season.

UNCW's No. 2 doubles team of junior Zoe Huffman and graduate student Maddy Muller-Hughes edged LU's Maria Saez and Nina Hederich in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (1), to clinch the early point for the Seahawks.

Graduate transfer Lauren Gish raised the score to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2, victory against LU's Karina Rizvanova at No. 2 singles before the Lancers picked up a point at Mo. 3 singles.

But Seahawk junior Lauren Robbins won at No. 6 singles and graduate student Rachel Marthinsen was victorious at No. 5 to close out the match. Robbins topped LU's Zoe Barton, 6-2, 7-5, and Marthinsen cruised past Hederich, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 5 position for the clincher – her first of the season.

The Seahawks next return home to entertain South Carolina State on Thursday, April 14, in their next match with a 1 p.m. start at the UNCW courts.
