Seahawks Advance To CAA Tennis Semifinals

ELON, North Carolina – Defending Colonial Athletic Association champion UNCW sprinted past Hofstra, 4-0, in the second of three quarterfinal matches early Friday in the 2022 CAA Men's Tennis Championships at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks, 13-8, are the No. 2 seed and wasted no time in advancing to Saturday's semifinals against No. 3 Delaware. The No. 7 Pride finished its season at 5-10.
 
UNCW hiked its all-time record against the Pride to 6-0 by eliminating the Long Island club for the second straight year. The Seahawks reached the semifinals for the 18th time in the 32-year history of the event.
 
In Friday's match, UNCW nabbed the doubles point when the No. 2 tandem of Davide Innocenti and Reece Falck topped Hofstra's Josh Reynolds and Kaita Odani, 6-2. The Seahawks then won the first three singles matches to nail down the victory in 2:15.
 
Seahawk sophomore Gabe Hurtado was the first player off the court in singles when he throttled Hofstra freshman Matthew Garcia, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 4 slot. Falck then defeated Hofstra's Bo Cautaerts, 6-4, 7-6, at the top of the lineup to hike the score 3-0.
 
Newcomer Harold Huens clinched the match for the Seahawks for the second time this spring by rallying past Hofstra's Josh Reynolds, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
 
The Seahawks next take on the Blue Hens in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m.
