Women's Tennis Team Falls In Road Finale

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – In the first of back-to-back matches against conference and regional rival Charleston to end the regular season, the UNCW women's tennis team fell, 5-1, to the Cougars early Saturday at the CofC Tennis Center.

The Seahawks had a three-match winning streak snapped and stand 12-5 overall and 1-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Cougars, who have taken 13 of their last 14 matches, raised their record to 17-6 this spring.

The teams played singles first on Saturday and the Cougars swept five of the six matches to nail down the victory.

UNCW's lone victory came at the top of the lineup where graduate transfer Sasha Belaya raced past CofC's Slade Coetzee, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. The Cougars won the remaining five singles matches, including three in straight sets.

The Seahawks return home for the regular season finale on Saturday, April 23, against the Cougars at noon.
