Spair Moves Into Tie For Third At CAA Champs

SOUTHPORT, North Carolina – UNCW's Deborah Spair and Mallory Fobes each carded a 1-under-par 71 in the second round of the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championships on Saturday at The Reserve Club at St. James.

Charleston (301-291=592) holds steady atop the seven-team field. Christina Carroll of Delaware posted a 4-under-par 68 in the second round to lead the 40-player field and catapult the Blue Hens into second place entering Sunday's final round.

The Seahawks (306-296=602) sit in third place just 10 shots back. Saturday's 296 total represents the fourth-lowest score in program history at the CAA Championships.

Spair, a redshirt freshman, notched her season-low score with 15 holes of par-or-better, including four birdies, in the second round.

Fobes, a junior, improved her first round score by six strokes to enter the third round in fifth place. The East Bend, N.C., product has carded four birdies in the first 36 holes.

Sunday's final round begins at 8 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
