Seahawks Collar Bulldogs In Men's Tennis

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team registered its first shutout of the season with a dominating 7-0 victory over Samford's Bulldogs in a neutral site match at The Citadel's Earle Tennis Center early Wednesday.

The Seahawks moved to 6-4 this spring after snapping a two-match skid. The Bulldogs are 3-8.

UNCW picked up the doubles point for the fourth time this season when the No. 3 doubles team of freshman Trey Mallory and sophomore Gabe Hurtado outlasted Samford's J.B. Pickard and Matthew Gooch, 7-3 (3), in a tie-breaker.

The six singles matches weren't quite as close. UNCW swept all six matches in straight sets, including the clincher by sophomore Reece Falck – his third of the season – over Samford's Yerrassyl Murat, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.

The Seahawks wrap up their spring break trip by visiting Clemson on Saturday, March 12, for a noon match against the Tigers. UNCW's next home match is Wednesday, March 16, vs. East Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
