Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Joe Browning

Tigers Blank Seahawks In Men's Tennis

CLEMSON, South Carolina – Clemson won a close doubles point and then tacked on six singles victories to shut out UNCW, 7-0, in men's college tennis on Saturday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.

The Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference snapped a two-match losing streak to improve to 7-5, including 6-1 on their home courts. The Seahawks, capping their spring break trip, stand 6-5 overall and 0-1 in road matches.

Playing indoors because of cold temperatures, Clemson clinched the doubles point when the No. 3 tandem of Matt Pitts and Jorge Plans Gonzales topped UNCW's Gabe Hurtado and Trey Mallory, 7-3.

The Tigers then won the first two singles matches off the court at the No 1 and No. 4 positions before clinching the match on a 6-3, 6-3, victory by rookie Maxwell Smith at No. 6 singles.

The Seahawks return home to begin a five-match homestand on Wednesday, March 16, vs. East Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
