Seahawks Win Sixth Tennis Match

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team kicked off its spring break with a 7-0 shutout of NAIA Georgetown, Ky., early Tuesday at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks, 6-2, did not surrender a game in barreling through the three doubles matches and then made it a clean sweep in singles. The Tigers are now 4-8.
 
UNCW's No. 3 doubles tandem of Anna Daniels and Brinley Bell clinched the early point with a 6-0 bagel over Georgetown's Emma Hill and Mia Ferguson.
 
Sophomore Anna Parker Shumate picked up the clincher by defeating Georgetown's Lydia Prince, 6-0, 6-4, at the No. 6 singles position.
 
Graduate student Lauren Gish, playing No. 1 for the first time in her career, downed Maci Ferguson of Georgetown, 6-2, 6-3, at the top of the lineup.
 
The Seahawks open a four-game homestand on Friday, March 11, when UNC Asheville visits for a noon match at the UNCW courts.
