Seahawks Rout UNCA In Women's Tennis

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team continued to stay hot, routing visiting UNC Asheville, 7-0, in a non-conference match early Friday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks, 6-2, won their sixth match in the last seven outings and improved to 5-1 at home this spring. Friday's win kicked off a four-match homestand for Head Coach Hans Olsen and his club.
 
The Bulldogs of the Big South Conference lost for only the second time this season and stand 8-2. UNCA suffered its first road loss in three tries.
 
UNCW claimed the doubles point for the sixth consecutive match when the No. 1 tandem of Lauren Gish and Sasha Belaya squeezed past UNCA's Rosie Dickson and Ami Grace Dougah, 7-6 (5).
 
The Seahawks then swept all six singles matches to complete their second straight shutout. Gish picked up the clincher for the second time this season with a 6-1, 6-4, decision over UNCA's Taylor Love at the No. 4 position.
 
The Seahawks return to their home courts on Saturday (March 12) with a 2:30 p.m. start against Penn State. It marks the first meeting between UNCW and Penn State in women's tennis.
