Coastal Trims Seahawks In Women's Tennis

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Regional rival Coastal Carolina parlayed strong singles play into a 5-2 victory over UNCW in a non-conference women's tennis match early Saturday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Chanticleers won their first road match of new season to improve to 5-4. The Seahawks, who had a four-match winning streak snapped, are now 5-2 after dropping their first home match of the year.
 
The Seahawks jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after capturing the doubles point for the sixth time this spring. The No. 1 tandem of Sasha Belaya and Lauren Gish edged Coastal's Mathilde Tranberg and Paola Landin Lopez, 6-4, for the doubles point.
 
But the Chanticleers dominated singles play, sweeping five of the six matches, to nail down the win. UNCW's lone decision came at No. 5 singles when freshman Stela Joksimovic turned back CCU's Megan Hopton, 6-3, 6-4, to raise her record to 4-2 in her first season with the club.
 
The Seahawks next travel to Hilton Head, S.C., for a Tuesday match vs. Georgetown, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
