Phoenix Trim Seahawks in Women's Tennis

ELON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team opened its weekend road trip to the Triad with a 5-2 loss to Colonial Athletic Association rival Elon early Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks, 9-4, dropped to 1-2 in conference action with the loss. The Seahawks suffered just their second defeat in seven outings against state opponents this spring.
 
The Phoenix, 11-6, picked up the early doubles point when the No. 1 tandem of Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding slipped past UNCW's Sasha Belaya and Lauren Gish, 7-5. It was only the second loss of the season for Belaya and Gish.
 
Elon increased the score to 3-0 with victories at No. 4 and No. 1 singles before Seahawk freshman Stela Joksimovic topped Elon's Olivia Archer, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. The Phoenix then clinched the match and raised their lifetime record against UNCW to 16-9 when Reding downed junior Zoe Huffman, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
 
The Seahawks have five matches remaining in the regular season, including a noon match against UNC Greensboro on Sunday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
