Diamond Hawks Blank Tribe To Even Series

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Freshman RJ Sales tossed six shutout innings while UNCW slammed a season-high four home runs in a series-tying 10-0 win at William & Mary on Saturday.

The Seahawks pushed their record to 13-9 on the season while the Tribe saw its five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-10.

Sales (2-1) surrendered six hits and walked three while extending his shutout streak to 13.2 innings. He stranded nine runners on base, including two innings with runners on the corners.

Jac Croom led four Seahawks with two hits apiece. Croom connected on his second home run of the season in the fourth inning and added a double in the sixth. Adding home runs for the Seahawks were Taber Mongero, Matt Suggs and Ethan Baucom. Brooks Baldwin and Dillon Lifrieri both added two hits.

W&M starter Casey Green (0-3) took the loss for the Tribe, allowing six runs on four hits and a pair of walks in 4.2 innings.

David Hogarth paced W&M, which stranded 12 runners on base, with two hits.

Mongero homered to lead off the game for the second consecutive outing.

How it happened: UNCW got all the runs it would need just five pitches into the game when Mongero drilled a homer on a 3-1 offering from Green. Baucom homered to left to make it 2-0 in the second inning. The Seahawks broke the game open with six runs over the middle three innings.

Inside the box score: The shutout was the fourth for the Seahawks this season … The Tribe landed its leadoff hitter on base five times, was 1-for-12 with RISP and 1-for-9 with two out … Bryce Cota and Noah Overton allowed three hits over three innings of shutout relief.
