Seahawks Mash Marquette For 7th Home Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team used its depth in the back end of the lineup to turn back Big East Conference member Marquette, 4-1, early Saturday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks, who dropped the doubles point, increased their record to 8-6 and 7-1 at home by winning the first four singles matches off the court. The Golden Eagles plummeted to 3-10 on the season after splitting their first two matches during a spring break trip to the North Carolina coast.
 
Marquette, which defeated Bryant, 4-2, on Friday, started the first meeting between the two schools by taking the top two doubles matches for a quick 1-0 advantage.
 
The lead was short lived, however, as the Seahawks grabbed control of the match quickly in singles. UNCW rookie Danil Ozernoy breezed past MU's Will Tennison, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 singles to even the score and another Seahawk freshman, Harold Huens, tripped up Jan Jauch, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
 
UNCW sophomore Reece Faulk trimmed MU's Stefan Dragovic, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles to boost the score to 3-1, setting up the clincher by sophomore Gabe Hurtado, who dispatched MU's Ian Brady, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 5 slot.
 
Saturday's match was the third in a five-match homestand for the Seahawks. UNCW closes out a busy weekend by playing host to Bryant on Sunday at 2 p.m.
