Seahawks Post Second Shutout Of Season

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team moved over .500 this spring by shutting out future Colonial Athletic Association member Monmouth, 4-0, in the first meeting between the two schools on Thursday.
 
The Seahawks improved to 7-6 on the season and 6-1 at home with the convincing performance. It was the first of three matches in four days for the Seahawks. Monmouth fell to 9-3 and 2-2 on the road this spring.
 
UNCW claimed the doubles point for the sixth time with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions and then swept the first three singles matches off the court to complete the shutout.
 
Sophomore Bekhzod Rasamatov, the 2021 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, clinched the match by racing past Monmouth's Niels Van Noord, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. The native of Tushkent, Uzbekistan, is now 5-4 at the top of the lineup this season.
 
The Seahawks continue a five-match homestand with a Saturday pairing vs. Marquette at 2 p.m.
