Drexel Turns Back Seahawks In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Drexel rattled off 16 unanswered points early in the game to remain unbeaten in the Colonial Athletic Association as UNCW fell, 72-39, in women's basketball action on Friday night.
 
UNCW shot 31.3 percent (15-of-48) from the field while Drexel hit 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the floor.
 
The Seahawks dropped to 3-15 overall on the year and are 0-8 in conference play. The Dragons, winners of 14 straight games, improved to 17-2 overall and sit atop the CAA with an unblemished 9-0 record in league play.
 
Senior guard Sierra DaCosta led the Seahawks with 12 points. Sophomore guard Evan Miller added nine points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor to pair with six rebounds.
 
Four Drexel starters scored in double figures with fifth-year guard Hannah Nihill contributing a game-high 19 points. Nihill was joined by senior guard Keishana Washington (15) along with graduate forwards Tessa Brugler (13) and Mariah Leonard (10) to complete the scoring quartet.
 
Miller splashed a three-pointer to pull the Seahawks within one point, 14-13, with 3:08 to go in the first quarter. Four Dragon players then erupted for 14 unanswered points over a seven-minute stretch to push the lead to 30-13 with 5:22 remaining before halftime.
 
UNCW concludes its four-game road trip on Sunday with a matchup at Delaware. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
