DaCosta Notches Double-Double In Road Setback

Newark, Del. – Delaware senior forwards Jasmine Dickey and Ty Battle each posted a double-double to sink UNCW, 77-62, in women's basketball action at the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Seahawks dropped to 3-16 overall and are 0-9 in CAA play. The Blue Hens, winners of five straight games, upped their record to 15-5 overall and now stand 9-1 in the circuit.
 
UNCW shot 36.2 percent (21-of-59) from the field. Delaware hit 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the floor including 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from three-point range.
 
Graduate guard Sierra DaCosta posted her first double-double of the season while achieving season-highs in points (26) and rebounds (12). The East Carolina transfer was joined in double figures scoring by graduate forward Dejah Carter's season-best 14 points.
 
Dickey notched her ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Battle added her 14th double-double this year with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Paris McBride and sophomore guard Tyi Skinner each chipped in 13 points.
 
DaCosta began the fourth quarter with five points to bring UNCW back within single-digits, 60-52, with 8:28 to go. Delaware then countered with six straight points to push the lead back to double-digits for the rest of the game.
 
The Seahawks, trailing 23-10 after the first quarter, scored four consecutive layups at the start of the second period to cut the deficit to seven points, 25-18, at the 7:31 mark.
 
The Blue Hens responded with a 15-5 run, including a pair of three-pointers by Battle, to take a 42-27 lead into halftime.
 
Delaware opened the third quarter with a 10-2 scoring burst before it was held without a field goal over the final seven minutes of the period. A 9-2 spurt by the Seahawks sliced the lead to 58-47 entering the fourth act.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Blue Hens put the game on ice with back-to-back layups from Battle and McBride to up Delaware's advantage, 64-52, with 6:15 to go.
 
The Seahawks return home on Friday, Jan. 11, for a matchup against Elon at Trask Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
