HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison women's basketball team outscored UNCW 21-7 in the first quarter to claim a 73-51 win at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes, 12-13 overall and 8-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association, were led by junior guard Kiki Jefferson's 21 points. The Lancaster, Pa., product was joined in double figures scoring by senior guard Madison Green's 15 markers and sophomore forward Steph Ouderkirk's 10 points off the bench.
Graduate forward Dejah Carter scored 10 of her 14 points after halftime for the Seahawks, who fell to 3-21 and 0-14 in the CAA.
Jefferson started the contest off with a three-pointer on the Dukes' first possession that set the stage for a 12-2 run over the first five minutes.
The Dukes, who took a 38-21 lead into halftime, never trailed and swelled their lead as high as 26 points, 62-36, on an Ouderkirk jumper with 9:31 to go in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks travel to Elon on Wednesday, Feb. 20, for its final road game of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Schar Center.
