Seahawks Earn Draw on Senior Day

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Goalkeepers Blair Barefoot and Hanna Wise posted their fourth combined shutout of the season as the UNCW women's soccer team played Towson to a scoreless draw in the Seahawks' home finale on Sunday afternoon at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks moved to 7-5-2 overall with a 3-2-1 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tigers are now 9-3-4 this year with a 2-1-3 league record.

Both teams totaled nine shots in the tightly contested game while the Seahawks held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks, including four in the second half. Barefoot and Wise each had two saves.

Towson's Nia Christopher, the CAA's leading scorer, appeared to be on her way to breaking the tie in the 66th minute when she raced past the Seahawk defense toward the goal. With only Wise to beat, Christopher drilled a ball to the right side, but Wise turned back the shot to preserve the clean sheet.

The Seahawks honored nine players – Carey Allard, Hannah Arostegui, Blair Barefoot, Jordan Faveri, Grace Guller, Chloe Mills, Morgan Nanni, Talia Parrous and Payton VanMiddlesworth – on Senior Day in a special pregame ceremony.

UNCW will spend the rest of the regular season on the road beginning with a Long Island road swing next weekend. The Seahawks will travel to Hofstra on Oct. 13 for a 7 p.m. tilt before playing Stony Brook on Oct. 16.
