HEMPSTEAD, New York – Hofstra used a pair of goals in the first half to earn a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over UNCW in women's soccer action at Hofstra Soccer Stadium on a rainy Thursday night.
The Pride improved their record to 7-6-3 with a 2-3-2 mark in conference play. The Seahawks dipped to 7-6-2 overall and are 3-3-1 in the CAA.
The game featured three goals within the first 40 minutes of play. Hofstra struck first in the ninth minute with a goal by Dagny Run Petursdottir. The freshman midfielder was assisted on the score by Wiktoria Fronc.
UNCW countered 20 minutes later when graduate midfielder Morgan Nanni chipped in her 21st career marker to even the contest, 1-1.
The Pride added the game-winner in the 39th minute when Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir headed in her sixth goal of the season courtesy of a cross into the box by Leah Iglesias.
Graduate goalkeeper Hanna Wise recorded two saves for the Seahawks, who were outshot by a 15-6 margin.
The Seahawks continue their stay on Long Island with a Sunday matchup at Stony Brook at Noon.
