WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Powered by Kayla Burroughs' career-high five-point effort, the UNCW women's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory vs. Elon in a key Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Thursday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks, 7-5-1 (3-2 CAA), earned three points in the conference standings with their fourth shutout of the year. The Phoenix, 6-5-2 (2-3 CAA), dropped their third straight game.
Burroughs, who recorded four of UNCW's 15 shots, struck early for the Seahawks in the fifth minute on a ball across the box from Morgan Nanni. The Asheboro, N.C., native then secured her third career multi-goal game 15 minutes later when she sent in a long pass by Chloe Mills to give UNCW a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The sophomore forward totaled her fifth point of the night in the 48th minute when she turned on a defender and slotted a pass to Madison Henry, who put it in the back of the net for her team-high seventh goal of the season. It was the fifth time Burroughs and Henry teamed up on a score in 2022.
Freshman Lauren Doyle recorded her first career goal in the 89th minute when the ball came free on a set piece from the left corner. Mills rolled the loose ball over to Doyle, who capped the 4-0 win with her marker.
Graduate goalkeeper Hanna Wise fashioned her first solo shutout of the year with a season-high five saves against seven shots faced by Elon.
