Stony Brook Edges Seahawks, 3-2

STONY BROOK, New York – Stony Brook used a pair of first-half goals to edge the UNCW women's soccer team, 3-2, in Colonial Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves upped their record to 6-7-4 with a 3-2-3 CAA mark. The Seahawks dipped to 7-7-2 overall and are 3-4-1 in league play.

UNCW outshot Stony Brook 17-14, including 11 attempts in the second half. Junior midfielder Madison Henry led the Seahawks with seven shots.

The Seawolves scored twice in the first 20 minutes to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime. UNCW threatened with two second-half goals, but an insurance marker by Stony Brooks' Linn Beck in the 60th minute helped turn back the Seahawks.

Stony Brook added a goal in the 12th minute when freshman Luciana Setteducate found the back of the net after a corner from Catharina Von Drigalski bounced around the box.

Less than 10 minutes later defender Morayo Adenegan put the Seawolves ahead by two on a score through the bottom center of the net. The graduate student was assisted by Gabby Daniels and Ashley Manor on the play.

The Seahawks pulled within one in the 46th minute when junior midfielder Madison Henry booted in a shot that had deflected off Stony Brook goalkeeper Nicolette Pasquarella for her eighth goal of the season.

The Seawolves pushed the lead back to two with 30 minutes to go when Beck drilled a cross from Gabrielle Cote to make it a 3-1 game. UNCW's Kayla Burroughs trimmed the deficit again with a goal two minutes later to cap the offensive day.

UNCW concludes its regular season next Sunday at Charleston at 1 p.m.
