Seahawks, Cougars Play to 1-1 Draw

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Both teams scored a goal within the first 11 minutes as the UNCW women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Charleston in the regular season finale at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks stand at 7-7-3 overall and are 3-4-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Cougars close their season with an 8-7-3 overall record and 2-4-3 league mark.

UNCW recorded 15 shots, including 12 in the second half. Charleston fashioned five shots in each half.

The Cougars wasted little time scoring with a goal 30 seconds into the match by Olivia Freitas, who got behind the Seahawk defense after the Cougars cleared a UNCW attack.

Sophomore forward Kayla Burroughs provided the equalizer roughly 10 minutes later with her team-high eighth goal of the season. Senior Grace Guller registered her second assist of the season.

With the tie, the Seahawks await the result of the Hampton-William & Mary match to determine their postseason fate. UNCW can still clinch a spot in the CAA Championship with a tie or Tribe loss.

UPDATE (10/23, 4:08 p.m.) | UNCW has been eliminated from CAA Tournament contention with William & Mary's 4-0 win at Hampton.
