Haggerty, Sawyer Lead UNCW In Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Brianna Haggerty had a team-high 15 kills and Claire Sawyer posted career-highs in assists and digs, but UNCW came out on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss at Jacksonville on Saturday.

The Dolphins finished off a weekend sweep of the Seahawks to run their record to 2-3. UNCW, meanwhile, fell to 1-4 with their third straight loss.

JU posted 25-22 and 25-23 wins in the first two sets before UNCW forced a fourth set with a 25-20 victory. The Dolphins closed out the match with a dominating 25-12 win in the fourth.

For Haggerty, her 15 kills were one off her career high set earlier this season against North Alabama. She narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine digs.

Sawyer, meanwhile, chalked up her second career double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs. She also added a career-best six kills.

For the second straight match, the Seahawks were unable to contain JU's Cami Kelsay, who held match-high honors with 19 kills.

The Dolphins finished with 11 aces on the afternoon while both teams combined for 25 service errors.

The Seahawks visit Conway, S.C., next weekend for the Chanticleer Classic, hosted by Coastal Carolina. UNCW opens the tournament with a 1 p.m. start on Sept. 10.
