Molina's Brace Leads Seahawks Past Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Led by two goals from graduate student forward Nicolas Molina, UNCW extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Jacksonville at Southern Oak Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks, who are receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division I poll, improved to 3-0-0 with the victory. Jacksonville, meanwhile, dipped to 1-2-0 on the season.

Molina gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead with 8:54 left in the first half when he converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

Junior forward Cannon Tootle upped the advantage to 2-0 lead just under 15 minutes into the second half when he notched his first goal of the year past redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jabari Gray.

Molina struck again in the 76th minute when he placed a shot into the lower left corner of the goal past Gray, giving UNCW a 3-0 edge.

Jacksonville ended the Seahawks' shutout bid two minutes later when redshirt freshman defender Nil Ringstrand took a pass from redshirt sophomore defender Cole Reasonover and scored past junior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta.

Perrotta made three saves in the victory for the Seahawks, who outshot Jacksonville by a 13-9 margin. Gray and redshirt junior Matt Levy combined to register four saves in the loss for the Dolphins.

UNCW begins Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday, Sept. 11, when the Seahawk visit Drexel for a 1 p.m. contest against the Dragons. Jacksonville visits Presbyterian next Saturday at noon.
