GREENVILLE, South Carolina – Freshman
Malu Brinker carded a 2-under-par 70 to lead UNCW during the opening round of the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
Led by Brinker, the Seahawks stand ninth in the 13-team field with a 301 team score. Host Furman holds a 12-stroke lead over Coastal Carolina after posting an 8-under-par 280 team score.
Brinker, who is tied for third place, opened the tournament with three birdies in the first five holes en route to posting her third round of par or better this season.

Deborah Spair are all tied for 38th place at 5-over-par after the first 18 holes.
The second round of the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational is scheduled for a 9 a.m. split tee start on Saturday, Sept. 25.
