Seahawks Return to Winning Ways With 3-0 Victory

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior forward Jalen Anderson recorded the first two-goal game of his college career as UNCW snapped a brief two-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Longwood in non-conference men's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks, who matched a season high with their three-goal output, improved to 4-2-0 on the season while Longwood dropped to 1-4-1 after losing for the second straight game.

UNCW took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Anderson received a pass from senior midfielder Ryan Graham after a Longwood turnover and blasted a shot from the top of the penalty area for his second goal of the season.

Just under two minutes into the second half, the Seahawks were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Graduate student forward Nicolas Molina ripped a 20-yard shot into the upper right corner of the goal for his team-leading fourth goal of the season, upping the Seahawks' advantage to 2-0.

Anderson added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when freshman defender Angelo Madrid sent a crossing attempt to the far post, which Anderson headed in past sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Muller.

Junior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta made one save to register his third shutout of the season as the Seahawks outshot Longwood by a 17-9 margin.

Muller made two saves in the second half for Longwood after relieving graduate student Jacob Reimers at the intermission. Reimers posted one save in his 45 minutes of action.

UNCW hits the road on Tuesday, Sept. 21, for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest at Campbell while Longwood opens Big South Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 25, with a 2 p.m. game against UNC Asheville.
