WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – UNCW used a trio of top-10 finishes to earn third place at the William & Mary Invitational following the final round at the Kingsmill Resort River Course on Monday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who closed play with a 296 team score in the final round, were five strokes behind tournament champion James Madison while Princeton followed in second place with an 871 team score.
Junior
Mallory Fobes led the Seahawks by placing third in the 79-player field after shooting 3-under for the tournament, marking the first top-5 performance of her college career. The East Bend, N.C., product carded a 5-over-par 77 in the final round, but ended the tournament as the individual leader with two eagles and 12 birdies.
Senior
Phu Khine authored her fifth career top-five effort after finishing in fifth place at 1-under-par (70-70-75=215) while freshman
Malu Brinker followed in a tie for eighth place after posting a 1-under-par 71 in the final round.
The Seahawks return to action on Sept. 24-26 at the Furman Paladin Invitational.
