WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Graduate student forward
Audrey Harding scored two goals with an assist to lead UNCW to its fourth straight win, a 3-0 victory over Charlotte in non-conference women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks improved to 4-1-0 on the season while Charlotte moved to 4-3-0 after its third loss in the last four games.
UNCW claimed a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Harding sent a corner kick into the penalty area that was knocked in by junior forward
Jordan Faveri for her fourth goal of the season.
Harding upped the Seahawks' advantage to 3-0 later in the first half with a pair of goals over an eight-minute span. She scored her first goal with 18:44 remaining in the period when she took a pass from Faveri and chipped a shot over fifth year goalkeeper
Abby Stapleton.
With 10:55 left in the first half, Harding collected a pass from freshman forward
Kayla Burroughs and eluded a pair of Charlotte defenders before slipping a shot past Stapleton inside the far post for her second goal of the season.
UNCW maintained the three-goal margin in the second half as freshman goalkeeper
Kaylie Bierman and the Seahawks limited the 49ers to a pair of shots on goal.
Bierman, the two-time reigning Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, tallied four saves to register her second straight clean sheet as the Seahawks outshot Charlotte, 11-8.
Stapleton registered two saves in the first half for the 49ers before sophomore
Emma Wakeman added two saves after the intermission.
The Seahawks close out their non-conference schedule on Thursday, Sept. 16, with a 6 p.m. contest at Liberty. Charlotte begins Conference USA competition on Thursday with a 7 p.m. home game against Southern Miss.
