TAMPA, Florida – All you need is one more goal than your opponent to secure a victory in soccer. For the UNCW men's soccer team, one goal is all it took on Sunday night.
Junior midfielder
Omar Aboutaleb's goal in the 95th minute was enough for the Seahawks to secure their second win in as many games, a 1-0 victory over USF at Corbett Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks, who won their second straight game by a 1-0 margin, upped their record to 2-0-0 on the young season. USF, meanwhile, evened its record at 1-1-0 after suffering its first shutout of the year.
Aboutaleb, a transfer from Barton College, gave UNCW the victory when he knocked in a crossing pass from graduate student defender
Michael Hornsby for his first goal as a Seahawk.
The goal capped off a solid defensive effort by the Seahawks, who limited the Bulls to just eight shots, including just one attempt on goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta tallied one save to record his 16th career shutout. Freshman goalkeeper Ralph Montero notched two saves in the loss for USF, which opened its season on Thursday with a 4-1 verdict over Jacksonville.
The Seahawks continue their three-game road swing on Saturday, Sept. 4, with a 7 p.m. contest at Jacksonville. USF returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 2, by visiting Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m.
