WILMINGTON, North Carolina – When you start something, it's important to finish it.
That's exactly what junior forward
Jalen Anderson did in UNCW's men's soccer opener on Thursday afternoon, converting a penalty kick in the 40th minute to defeat Lafayette, 1-0, at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
With 5:54 left in the first half, Anderson was fouled inside the penalty area by junior defender Jack Needham. The Hamden, Conn., product stepped to the penalty spot and delivered the Seahawks' first goal of the season past senior
Alex Sutton with a strike to the right side.
Led by two saves from junior goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta, the Seahawks limited Lafayette to just five shots en route to securing the clean sheet.
Sutton stopped three shots in the loss for Lafayette, which was outshot by a 10-5 count.
The Seahawks begin a three-game road swing on Sunday, Aug. 29, with a 7 p.m. non-conference fixture at South Florida. Lafayette returns home to entertain Drexel on Monday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m.
