GREENVILLE, North Carolina – East Carolina used three goals during a 14-minute span in the second half to earn its second exhibition shutout in as many games with a 3-0 victory over UNCW at Johnson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, East Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute as freshman forward
Samantha Moxie scored on a rebound of a shot by freshman midfielder
Haley McWhirter that was stopped by sophomore goalkeeper
Blair Barefoot.
The Pirates, who blanked Longwood earlier in the week, added to their advantage just over three minutes later when graduate student forward
Tori Riggs struck off an assist from freshman midfielder
Holly Schlagel.

Grace Doran completed the scoring in the 70th minute with an unassisted marker past freshman goalkeeper
Kaylie Bierman.
Sophomore goalkeepers
Maeve English and
Maggie Leland combined to register seven saves in earning the shutout for the Pirates. Barefoot made two saves in 55 minutes before Bierman played the final 35 minutes for the Seahawks, who outshot East Carolina by a 12-11 margin.
The Seahawks open their 2021 regular season schedule on Sunday, Aug. 22, with a 1 p.m. non-conference contest against VCU at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
