CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNCW women's soccer team captured the CAA South Division championship for the second consecutive season Sunday afternoon, dominating Charleston with a 4-0 road victory.
"Very happy with the away result versus a Charleston team that had us pinned in for the first 15 minutes of the match", said head coach
Chris Neal. "We weathered an early storm and we were fortunate to break the ice with the first goal. We will enjoy the bus ride home and get to work on preparation for William & Mary first thing in the morning."
The Seahawks (10-0-6, 5-0-2 CAA) opened the scoring in the 13th minute when
Allie Planeaux found the back of the net off a deflection from a
Hailey Longwell header. The goal came after UNCW earned seven consecutive corner kicks to start its offensive pressure.
UNCW carried its momentum into the second half, adding three goals to complete the shutout.
Kamrey Watkins scored in the 54th minute, followed by
Caigan Leonard in the 68th minute.
Meg Umemoto capped the scoring with a converted penalty kick in the 81st minute. The goals marked Watkins' fourth of the season, Leonard's sixth and Umemoto's third. Umemoto also converted her second career penalty kick.
Defensively, the Seahawks limited Charleston (5-8-3, 2-4-1 CAA) to six shots, including four on goal.
Lili White made two saves in the first half before
Zoë Anderson took over in the second half and added a save of her own to help preserve the shutout.
With the victory, UNCW secured its seventh road win of the season, tying the program record originally set in 2006 and matched in 2009 and 2015.
The Seahawks clinched the South Division championship with Sunday's victory and Elon's 2-0 win over William & Mary. The title marks UNCW's second consecutive South Division championship after the Seahawks went 7-0-2 in conference play during the 2025 season. The program also finished 4-0 in the 2020-21 season.
UNCW concludes its four-match road stretch Sunday, Oct. 25, when it visits William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the match will stream on FloCollege.
