Diamond Hawks Fall In Raleigh, 9-1


RALEIGH, N.C. – Chris Villaman struck out 12 over eight innings and the Wolfpack lineup hit four home runs as NC State raced past UCW, 9-1, on Tuesday at Doak Field.

The Wolfpack completed the annual home-and-home sweep of the series to improve to 23-14 while the Seahawks dropped to 26-17 and saw their five-game winning streak go by the wayside.

Villaman (5-2) allowed just one run on two hits over a career-long eight innings. His 12 strikeouts were also a career high.

Homering for the Wolfpack were Jonny Butler, Luca Tresh, Devonte Brown and Vojtech Mensik.

UNCW starter Carter Holjes (0-2) took the loss.

Matt Suggs belted his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning.

How it happened: The Wolfpack jumped in front with five unearned runs, three in the second and two more in the third.

Up next: The Seahawks host CAA South Division leader the College of Charleston in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
