Tigers Edge Seahawks In Finale

CLEMSON, South Carolina – Clemson rallied from an early deficit to turn back UNCW, 4-2, in the regular season finale for both men's tennis teams early Monday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
 
The Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference improved to 10-13 overall and went undefeated in five matches at home with the non-conference win. The Seahawks had their four-match winning streak snapped and conclude the regular campaign with a 12-5 mark.
 
Playing for only the third time, the two teams met for a rare early-week match after the Seahawks defeated Georgia State on Sunday in Roswell, Ga. It was the first pairing between the two teams since Feb. 8, 2014.
 
The Seahawks jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after winning matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The top team of Bruno Caula and Daniel Groom upset 40th-ranked Yizhou Liu and Teodor Giusca, 6-3, at the top of the lineup and the No. 3 team of Leonardo Sprovieri and Gabriel Hurtado defeated Carlos Kelaidis and Andrew Puscas, 6-4.
 
The Tigers stormed back, however, with four singles victories to nail down the win. Groom managed UNCW's lone singles win on the day when the Australian zipped past Kelaidis, 6-2, 7-5, in straight sets.
 
The Seahawks next compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championships on Apr. 29-May 2 in Williamsburg, Va.
