Charleston Tops UNCW In Women's Tennis

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The College of Charleston women's tennis team avenged a loss to UNCW 15 days ago with a 5-1 victory over the Seahawks early Saturday at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
 
The Seahawks conclude the regular season with a 9-8 record and 1-3 mark in the Colonial Athlete Association. The Seahawks next compete in the CAA Women's Tennis Championships on Apr. 22-25 in Williamsburg, Va.
 
The Cougars carry a 10-12 overall record and 2-3 ledger into the postseason tournament hosted by William & Mary.
 
CofC lost the doubles point, but swept five singles matches to snap UNCW's four-match winning streak and avenge a 4-3 loss to the Seahawks on April 2, 2021, in Wilmington.
 
UNCW won matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 advantage in the match. It was the 14th time in 17 matches that the Seahawks have won the doubles point this spring.
 
Sarah Horn and Celeste Matute edged CofC's Slade Coetzee and Anastasia Palaska, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles before Charlotte Madson and Rachel Marthinsen clinched the early point with a 7-5 decision against Kate Earnhardt and Clara Errard.
