The Roupp, The Roupp, The Roupp Was On Fire

Landen Roupp strikeouts a career-high 10 in shutout win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Landen Roupp struck out a season-high 10 in a complete game shutout as UNCW won its series opener with UNC Asheville, 8-0, on Friday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks moved to 16-13 with the win while the Bulldogs fell to 10-17.

Roupp (4-3) rolled through the UNCA lineup in a game that took just 2:14 to play. The righthander walked one and scattered three hits in recording his second career complete game. He faced just two hitters over the minimum.

While Roupp dominated, UNCW collected 13 hits on the night with Cole Weiss and Noah Bridges getting three apiece. Weiss scored twice and doubled while Bridges belted his third home run of the season and finished with three runs batted in.

Jac Croom and Taber Mongero, who drove in three runs on the night, added two hits apiece.

UNCA starter Dawson Salter (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season, lasting 1.1 innings.

Roupp allowed just one Bulldog to get to second base on the night.

How it happened: The Seahawks scored four in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Bridges' two-run shot to right. Mongero and Brooks Baldwin added RBI singles later in the inning.

Notes: The complete game was Roupp's second, but his first being nine innings … He tossed a seven-inning complete game against Elon in 2019 … It was the quickest game for the Seahawks since a 2:13 win over Delaware at the CAA tournament in 2018 … UNCW finished 6-for-11 with RISP … Roupp did not allow a hit with runners on base as UNCA finished 0-8.

Up next: The Seahawks and Bulldogs meet in game two of the series at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
