Seahawks Triumph Over Spartans

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team won its fourth match against an in-state opponent on Sunday, defeating UNC Greensboro, 5-2, in a non-conference women's match at the UNCW courts.
 
Playing in breezy conditions, the Seahawks improved to 6-7 overall, while UNCG fell to 4-4 on the campaign. UNCW has five contests remaining in the regular season, two at home and three on the road, before the CAA Women's Tennis Championships on Apr. 22-25, 2021, in Williamsburg, Va.
 
In Sunday's match, the Seahawks won the first two doubles pairings off the court for a quick 1-0 advantage. UNCW's No. 3 tandem of Brinley Bell and Anna Daniels cruised past UNCG's Brianna Gomez and Juliana Craft, 6-2, to give UNCW an early lead.
 
Graduate transfer Charlotte Madison, playing No. 1 singles, raised the score to 2-0 with a lopsided 6-0, 6-0, decision over UNCG's Sophia Adams and Bell increased the margin to 3-0 by topping Eugenia Comacho, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
 
Sophomore Zoe Huffman then clinched the match for the first time this season by trimming Emily Ory, 7-6 (4), 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
 
The Seahawks continue their long home stay on Thursday, Apr. 1, with a 1 p.m. date vs. state rival Campbell. The Spartans entertain Appalachian State on Wednesday, Mar. 31, in a 1 p.m. match at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
