No. 43 Liberty Downs No. 49 UNCW

LYNCHBURG, Virginia – In a clash of two nationally-ranked teams, No. 43 Liberty defeated visiting UNCW, 5-2, in a men's tennis match on Friday at the Cook Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks had their five-match winning streak snapped and stand 7-3 this spring. The Flames reeled off their fourth consecutive victory and improved to 12-5 and 7-0 at home.
 
Liberty clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 2 doubles and added four singles victories for the decision. The Seahawks still lead the all-time series, 6-2.
 
Freshmen Bekhzod Rasamatov and Gabriel Hurtado delivered wins for the Seahawks. Rasamatov rallied past Thando Longwe-Smit, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 1-0 (5) at No. 4 singles and Hurtado won in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5, over Liberty's Goncalo Ferreira.
 
UNCW plays at UNC Greensboro on Sunday at noon before returning to the coast to open a four-match home stand next Friday, April 2, vs. VCU. Liberty travels to Louisville, Ky., on Sunday, Mar. 28, for a 1 p.m. match at Bellarmine.
