Bridges Homers In 4-1 Victory For UNCW

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Noah Bridges' three-run homer in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as UNCW averted a sweep at William & Mary with a 4-1 win on Sunday at Plumeri Park.

The Seahawks improved to 12-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. The Tribe, who swept a twinbill on Saturday, fell to 4-9 and 3-3.

Ryan Calvert (1-0) earned his first collegiate win for the Seahawks, allowing an unearned run over five-plus innings, scattering three hits and striking out two. Hunter Hodges earned the save with four innings of hitless baseball.

Ben Greenspon (0-3) took the loss for W&M.

Brooks Baldwin led all hitters with three hits for the Seahawks and Bridges added two, including his second home run of the season.

How it happened: Kip Brandenburg and Matt Suggs opened the sixth inning with singles. After two quick pop up outs, Bridges drilled the first pitch he saw over the wall in right to give UNCW a 4-1 lead.

Notes: Brandenburg extended his hitting streak to 19 games … For Calvert, his five innings worked were a career-long … Hodges has struck out 19 in 15.1 innings of relief this season … The win halted a five-game conference losing streak to the Tribe, who swept the 2019 series at Brooks Field.

Up next: The Seahawks host NC State on Mar. 23 at 6 p.m. If there are any unsold tickets remaining for the game, they will go on sale to the public at 2 p.m. that day.
