Parrous Goal Enough for 1-0 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior defender Talia Parrous scored the game's only goal early in the second half to give UNCW a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks, who won their second straight game, improved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the CAA. Charleston, meanwhile, dipped to 0-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the circuit.

After a scoreless first half, Parrous gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute when she headed in a pass from freshman midfielder Madison Henry for her second goal in as many games.

From there, the UNCW defense took over by limiting Charleston to just three shots over the final 40 minutes to seal the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Blair Barefoot stopped a season-high six saves to earn the first shutout of her college career. Redshirt junior Meredith Holton tallied three saves in the loss for Charleston, which was outshot by an 11-8 margin.
