MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – No. 12 UNCW authored its fourth consecutive shutout to claim a 0-0 double overtime draw against the College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at Ralph Lundy Field on Saturday night.
The Seahawks moved their record to 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the CAA while Charleston stands 0-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta made one save to claim his fifth shutout of the season for the Seahawks, who outshot Charleston by a 14-3 margin.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Cameron Smith tallied four saves for the Cougars, who ended a brief two-game losing streak with the tie.
Game Notes:
- UNCW holds a 10-7-3 lead in the all-time series against Charleston, but saw an end to its three-game win streak over the Cougars.
- Saturday's game marked the Seahawks' second scoreless draw of the seahawks …UNCW played Duke to a 0-0 result on Feb. 26 at Koskinen Stadium.
- UNCW, which is ranked 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, now stands 31-18-7 as a nationally-ranked program since the start of the 2004 season.
- The Seahawks have conceded just two goals in six games this season … Over the last 15 games, UNCW has outscored its opponents by a 22-5 margin with an 11-1-3 record.
- Perrotta ranks sixth on the Seahawks' career list after notching his 13th clean sheet in two seasons … The Asuncion, Paraguay, native is 16-3-4 as a starter for Coach Aidan Heaney.
- The Seahawks attempted a season-high 20 corner kicks in the game.
- There were nine yellow cards issued between the two teams … In addition, Charleston played with just 10 men in the final 15:23 after Jake Nicholson received his second yellow card in the first overtime period.
