Volleyhawks With Another 5-Set Victory


WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – UNCW rallied from a 2-1 deficit after three sets to knock off host William & Mary in five sets on Friday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Kaplan Arena.

The Seahawks improved to 2-8 with their second consecutive win and 2-5 in the CAA. The Seahawks are now 2-4 in five-set matches. The Tribe, meanwhile, slipped to 3-2 overall and in the conference.

In the fifth set, Kyla Augustine's kill tied the score at 10-all and ignited a 3-0 run to give UNCW a 12-10 lead. The Tribe moved to within 12-11, but another Augustine kill and a hitting error by William & Mary gave the Seahawks a 14-11 lead. Augustine closed the match out with her 17th kill of the match.

Katie Lanz finished with a career-high 22 kills, the most by a Seahawk since Nicole Lott's 29 in 2016 at Elon. Augustine six blocks.

Brynn Montgomery's third triple-double of the season, and sixth of her career, consisted of 12 kills, 36 assists and 17 digs.

Julia Brown led the Tribe with 21 kills and hit .405 for the match. Lauren Merrill (19 kills, 11 digs) and Kate Van Houten (56 assists, 14 digs) had double-doubles for the Tribe.

In addition to Montgomery's 17 digs, the Seahawks saw Jazzell Mangosing (20), Brianna Haggerty (17) and Anna Weissmann (15) finished in double-digits.

Up next: The Seahawks and Tribe close out the weekend with a noon start on Saturday.
