UNCW Rallies To Beat Charleston, 3-2


WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off Charleston, 3-2, and give Head Coach Dottie Hampton her first win as a Seahawk on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks (1-8, 1-5 CAA) finished the weekend with a series split against the Cougars (3-3, 2-2 CAA).

UNCW rallied in the third set for a 25-22 win and then forced a fifth set with a 26-24 win in the fourth. In the fifth, the teams forced eight tied scores before the Seahawks gained an advantage late for the win.

UNCWs Katie Lanz posted a career-high 17 kills and was joined by Brianna Haggerty and Kyla Augustine in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

Setter Brynn Montgomery fashioned her league-leading eighth double-double of the season with 26 assists and 22 digs.

For CofC, who saw its eight-match winning streak against UNCW halted, was led by Lexi Wierznicki's 13 kills.

Libero Logan Manusky recorded a match-high 35 digs.

The Seahawks conclude their season at William & Mary on Mar. 19-20.
