Janel Gamache each registered three hits as UNCW split a doubleheader against Appalachian State to close out the four-game weekend series at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who saw their record move to 2-4 on the season, won the first game by a 5-2 score before falling in the nightcap, 7-1. Appalachian State stands 6-4 on the season after taking three of four games in the series.
Santiago recorded a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to four straight games. She blasted her first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the third inning of the first game before adding a 2-for-3 effort with a double and a run scored in the series finale.
Gamache, meanwhile, also posted a hit in the twinbill opener before going 2-for-3 in the nightcap, upping her hitting streak to six consecutive games. She also threw 2.2 scoreless inning of relief in the first game victory, posting two strikeouts while allowing just one walk.

Skylar Stockton and junior
Gabriella Hessenthaler – each added two hits for UNCW in the doubleheader.
Bjorson also earned the win in the circle in relief during the opener, allowing one unearned run on one hit over 1.1 innings.
How It Happened – Game 1: Appalachian State jumped out to a 1-0 lead before UNCW plated five unanswered runs for a 5-1 lead the Seahawks did not relinquish. Junior
Camryn Dean tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning with a sacrifice fly before Stockton's RBI single and Santiago's two-run homer in the third gave the Seahawks a 4-1 advantage.
How It Happened – Game 2: The Mountaineers scored five runs on six hits in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead they never relinquished. Senior
Keri White led the outburst with a three-run home run.
