Baseball Falls 8-2 To Catamounts


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Daylan Nanny and Justice Bigbie each had three hits and drove in three runs as Western Carolina raced past UNCW, 8-2, in college baseball action Friday at Brooks Field.

The Catamounts moved to 5-1 with the win while the Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season to slide to 3-1.

WCU starter Zebby Matthews improved to 2-0 with seven shutout innings, surrendering three hits and a walk and fanning seven.

Seahawk starter Landen Roupp (0-1) took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, over 4.1 innings.

Kip Brandenburg collected two hits and scored a run for the Seahawks, who broke the WCU shutout bid with two runs in the ninth.

The Catamounts broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the fifth inning.

How it happened: Nanny had a two-run double in that fifth inning, which also included RBI singles from Zach Ketterman and Bigbie.

Next up: The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. start at Brooks Field.
